This fall, Big Ten football fans are also learning about bird research being conducted at the Environmental Resilience Institute.
The network recently debuted a new round of “LiveBIG” vignettes featuring researchers from each Big Ten school. Indiana University’s vignette focuses on the work of ERI Fellows Alex Jahn and Adam Fudickar and their efforts to track birds and study their behavior by outfitting them with GPS loggers.
“The bird doesn’t even notice it’s there,” Jahn says in the video of the lightweight GPS units, “but it’s giving us really valuable data throughout the entire year.”
The 1-minute videos are being aired on the Big Ten Network during games and regular programming in addition to social media posts and the occasional stadium jumbotron.
