Indiana Resilience Funding Hub

Connecting Hoosier communities to funding for climate, energy, and resilience

The Indiana Resilience Funding Hub (IRFH), jointly administered by ERI and the IU Center for Rural Engagement, helps Hoosier local governments, community-based organizations, and small businesses pursue federal funding opportunities for climate, energy, and resilience projects.

The Hub, made possible by the Rural Climate Partnership and the Energy Foundation, is targeted at communities with fewer than 50,000 residents that lack the capacity to compete for grant funding on their own. IRFH will provide these communities with technical assistance and state-specific environmental expertise in the preparation and submission of competitive grant applications.

The Hub aims to:

  • guide smaller communities through an environmental needs assessment

  • provide data and solutions management

  • support proposal development

A once-in-a-generation opportunity

Rural communities and small towns have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform their communities by taking advantage of federal provisions in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the CHIPS and Science Act (CHIPS), and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Analysis by the Brookings Institution estimates that more than $464 billion, or 45% of the combined appropriations in these three laws, present a significant opportunity for rural America. Smaller communities, however, face hurdles in their ability to apply for and secure these funds.

The Indiana Resilience Funding Hub is here to help smaller communities overcome existing barriers and capitalize on these historic investments.

Projects prioritized by the Hub include:

  • energy efficiency
  • renewable energy
  • alternative transportation
  • electrification
  • climate mitigation
  • climate adaptation
