Climate Implications – Water Quality and Health

Climate change is expected to adversely affect the quality of both ground and surface water, and water used for both drinking and for recreational purposes in ways that will impact human health.

Drinking water quality

Climate change may affect drinking water quality and quantity as a result of an increase in the frequency and intensity of storms, warmer air temperatures and drought.

Recreational water quality

Stormwater runoff from intense storms may carry pollutants and sewage, possibly decreasing recreational water quality.
